Hey Now, Hey Now, This Is What Dreams Are Made Of! -Icon, Legend, Musical Genius- Hilary Duff

Hey Siri cue Lizzie McGuire. We may be almost two decades removed from the dawn of the new millennium, but it can be weird to think of anything set in the 2000s as a period piece. As you all know, every trend comes and gos. We’ve seen the rise of soft hues of the 70s, the glamorized 80s and the grunge from the 90s and now we are starting to notice this blast from the past. Not too long ago we were all sporting low rise jeans, layers on layers, color tinted sunnies and of course your fabulous frosted lip. Picture Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and Hilary Duff as your style iconic legends when putting together your pieces this season. I’m here to help with some inspiration and tips on how to bring these “vintage” trends back and fresher than ever!

1. FROSTED LIP GLOSS

In the 2000s, the frostier your lips were, the better they looked. No outfit felt complete without applying three to seven layers of pink lip gloss with a shimmery finish. It was also mandatory that you keep your lip gloss in the back pocket of your jeans (especially at the mall) so everyone would know that you have lip gloss in the back pocket of your jeans.

2. LOW-RISE JEANS

In the mid ‘90s, Alexander McQueen had an iconic fashion show where he showed super low-rise pants with major upper butt exposure. This trickled down to the way pants were made for both men and women. Low-rise jeans might’ve been great for flaunting your midriff, but they also made bending over feel like a show. Now, who knows if we will be seeing this frightening trend come up from its (ass)hes but here’s hoping it’s after our quarantine weight is down.

My Tip: Try easing into this with a pair of high waisted tie front jeans. Still shows off that skin but offers a more toned-down take on this 00s trend.

3. BANDANA TOPS

The bandana has long been a go-to accessory and it pops in and out of mainstream culture like a fashionable friend you catch up with every couple of years. The paisley square is no longer simply being used as a headpiece. Of course, you can do the typical headband on days when your dry shampoo just isn’t cutting it, but if you’re feeling a little more adventurous wrapping it around your body as an effortless top is another way to go.

My tip: do this, do this 100%

4. STUDDED BELTS

Oh the days where Hot Topic was our go-to. Studded or glitter belts were all the rage. The great thing about the studded belt was that it matched with everything. You could wear it with your band tee or your Happy Bunny tee. The studded belt was truly one of the most versatile accessories of the time and now we can bring it back in subtle or dramatic ways. Whichever way you choose, you’ll be making a statement.

5. RHINESTONE EVERYTHING

Since we’re on the topic of studs…rhinestones were placed on every inch of clothing in the 00s. Whether they were peel and stick fake earrings or embellishments on your sunglasses, rhinestones were equivalent to 14-karat diamonds in 2000s fashion. We can thank Euphoria because we’re starting to see this trend pop up now with makeup looks and with chic mesh styles are we’ve got major heart eyes for this nostalgic moment!

My Tip: DIY a pair of old denim with rhinestones down the side or even on the pockets (thank you Harry Styles)!

I hope you had some fun going down memory lane and got some inspiration for your new wardrobe. If this proves anything it’s that we should never get rid of that style we feel will never come back, because one day it will. So bring out that Ed Hardy bag, those Juicy Couture rhinestone track pants, a few (maybe four) layered tank tops, and please do not forget those clear sunnies with the studded hearts on them. More than anything, have fun!
